Note the similarities between this amplifier and the Harmony This amp has the logo “Thunder Bolt” as two words. The S was always had the single word moniker even though it was printed as two words seperated by a lightening bolt. While not necessarily a bad amplifier it is not The Supro Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt shares cosmetics and cabinet layout with the Supro Corsica. They are sometimes confused with each other as they do bear a strong resemblance and most people are not especially familiar with either amp.
See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

People are raving about these things as a way to recreate that vintage tape delay in a small stomp box. It does a cool chorusing thing that I really dig. Check it out here.
Nov 19, · Find out all you need to know need to know about the best and most rare vintage guitars from the Sixties! Besides bigger brands such as Fender and Gibson, several smaller brands flourished in this decade, and names such as Airline, Supro, Teisco and Hagstrom are today very desirable.
The company is famous as the first manufacturer of resonator guitars, which were hugely popular in blues and a bit later bluegrass music. National merged with the Dobro company, another maker of resonator guitars, around to form the National Dobro Corporation. The company began producing electric instruments in the s that included electric guitars, lap steels, mandolins and amplifiers.
These pre-war electric instruments are fairly rare today, though the lap steels pop up with some regularity. The archtop bodies for the guitars were sourced from Regal and then from Kay, but the electronics were developed and manufactured by National-Dobro. National-Dobro was reorganized into the Valco company in Manufacturing of resonator guitars ceased with the introduction of metal rationing in World War II, and the focus was placed on Spanish- and Hawaiian-style guitars and amplifiers.
Starting in , a new serial number system was adopted that allows for reasonably accurate dating of instruments. Valco quickly became one of the leading manufacturers of lap steels, alongside Magnatone, Gibson and Rickenbacker, and the company also sold acoustic guitars with National necks and bodies by Gibson. A number of electric archtop models were sold with bodies by Gibson, Harmony and Kay, but fitted with Valco-made pickups, hardware and necks. Guitars sold under other brand names, such as Oahu, generally followed Supro stylings.
These were fairly plain, understated instruments, however, so in Valco introduced the National model , also called the Town and Country. The solid maple body had ivory-colored binding and a matching plate covering the back. The bound neck was bolted on and inlayed with fancy parallelogram fret markers.
National guitars & Dobro guitars, they resonate;-)
Most of these were lower powered amps with a great sounding natural tube breakup and many models also featured a unique sounding tube driven tremolo. It had a hypnotic throb and was also capable of hard, choppy tremolo. Combined with the breakup overdriven characteristics of the amplifier, it created a percussive, rhythmic pulse that is very inspiring to play. The Catalinbread Valcoder was designed to recreate the tube tremolo as well as the amplifier breakup of these vintage amplifiers.
Separate input and output controls allow you to get anything from a clean tremolo sound all the way up to a gritty tube like breakup driving the tremolo circuit. With the depth and rate knobs set lower, the result is a smooth, bubbling modulation that is especially seductive when playing complex chords in the neck position.

In fact, it was likely that your parents were steering you in the direction of accordion lessons. The Beatles — and of course others — stopped all that. Suddenly, electric guitars were 1 on every kids Christmas list. Companies that had been manufacturing Accordions for 20 years, retooled for electric guitars. EKO was at the forefront, and within 2 years they were shipping over 10, electric guitars to USA per year.
Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Rickenbacker… these were all too expensive for our parents to buy for us. Hence, the foreign guitar manufacturers gave us what we wanted. Tip of the iceberg! A nifty Fender Musicmaker. I took it to the local luthier and asked him to refinish it, to remove the awful sticker. The Airline Guitars were sold through Montgomery Ward.
They are fun to fix up and fun to play.

I think I see one in the center back, at the very bottom. Through the instrument input, it’s clean, but closer to my Vox AC4 volume wise. Maybe a dumb question, but was the master gain turned up? It seems like for whatever reason, this amp wasn’t giving you all it should be capable of. If they aren’t asking much, I’d be very tempted to snatch it up and see what I could do with it. If you turn the master down, you can have a conversation over it.

Tweet on Twitter Mention the subject of American acoustic guitars and one of the first names that will undoubtedly pop into your head will be C. A pretty impressive achievement. Bring up the topic of electrics, and Martin is hardly the first name of recall. Most coverage of the Martin brand is focused, quite rightly, on their substantial acoustic achievements. The primary starting point for information about Martin guitars is, of course, Martin Guitars: These pickups were the DeArmond humbuckers with chrome sides and a black center in a trapezoidal hole, large pole pieces along one side and smaller poles along the other.
The D E was a mahogany dreadnought with the neck pickup and a second bridge pickup. The typical Martin pickguard had the front point cut off and a notch in back to make room for the pickups rings. A three-way toggle was mounted on the upper treble bout. Controls included one volume and two tones, with the big plastic knobs. These began with prototype

This bass and the amp that follows it were on the Danelectro factory floor at the same time; 30th week of In fact, they were the first stringed instruments to receive the Silvertone name! The first time I saw an example of one of these models, I though it wishful thinking on a modder’s part, and he put a nice Silvertone logo on a steel he had around.
Later, I came across another one.. And here this is; certainly the nicest example of this steel I’ve ever seen, complete with the original Geib case. Check out the knob escutcheons Also, that colorful ‘fretboard’ design is certainly an eye-catcher. Indeed, this may be the fanciest lap steel Sears ever sold under the Silvertone name. Cosmetically it’s not too bad, but it’s gonna need some TLC to get back to playing shape. But here’s the oddness: I’ve seen many models over the years, most of them are blond, ‘ Space Dot ‘ models, a select few match up to the series models
But unless I build one, this will be the last one for a while. But it’s a really great one. In my opinion, anyway. What we have here is a Supro T. This is a little single-ended 6V6 amp with tremolo built by Valco in Chicago.
