The safety automatically resets and both barrels are cocked whenever the action is opened, and only certain later model Fox-B’s have ejectors, all others are double extractors, meaning both shells are raised, whether or not fired. Fox B’s are also the only ones to offer a single trigger model, all other doubles are double triggers. If you find one that you like, close it up and remove the fore end, then give the barrels a twist to see how tight the lockup is.
The unlocking lever should be to the right of center when locked up, it will gravitate gradually to the left as the locking lug wears. This can be repaired by a good gunsmith, but the cost may outstrip the value of the gun. Look at the stock where it attaches to the action; splits are not uncommon, nor are they uncommon on the fore end at the hinge plate.

Back to Topics Typical wear, right side Here’s a typical wearing style for the sheath extender and tactical knife, right side, blade back. Note how much lower the extender sets the handle than the aluminum belt loops. The handle is nearer to the belt line, rather than high by the ribs. The extender should not be too long, or the lower tip of the sheath will flop around and need to be secured to the thigh.

Not every light colored wood is as soft as pine. Not every dark wood is as hard as ebony. It is a common misconception that darker woods are harder and thus, more desirable than lighter colored woods. It reminds me of the s when every den had to have dark or walnut colored paneled walls, furniture, and accessories. This may be the very reason that these dens were later called man-caves, because they were almost always dark.
Guys would stain pine to a walnut color to darken it, and make it seem more valuable, as the most valued North American hardwood is American Black Walnut.

Thu Oct 08, 8: Sun Aug 21, 8: Missouri About a hundred or so years ago, all the major gun makers figured out a more or less standard set of measurements for a shotgun barrel. I mean every tiny little bit of it, from breech face to the muzzle tip. The most important part was the breech end, and double guns had to get by with thinner barrel walls than single barrels, but everything was pretty gamed out about shotgun barrels before screw tubes got popular.
Every manufacturer,,,,every single one,,,,added metal to the muzzle end to beef up the screw tubes they put inside. Hold any factory choke tubed barrel up and sight down the side of it and you’ll see the taper where the metal gets thicker at the muzzle. You can’t add metal to the muzzle end when you add screw chokes to an barrel that was designed for a fixed choke. You can “get away with it” in almost all cases, but you’ll have a thinner muzzle section and a thinner choke tube walls than any factory would install.
With the old single barrel guns, you’ll have more room,,,but when you add tubes to really fine old doubles with wonderfully tapered and light barrels, you are risking problems.

Now how on earth did I come to that conclusion? Period catalogs also list a ppi count of 14 for the 4. Fortunately, we have some other clues that can help us zero in on a date. From this, I conclude that this medallion was manufactured between: That narrows it down to a razor-thin two-and-a-half decades. Maybe the stamping can help us shave off a few years from that range.
Stamping The stamped logo on the backsaw spine looks like this: This helps us cut our date range by a decade. The etch on the left is from an early 20th century backsaw. Note that the saw plate does not have an etching, so my saw could not have been manufactured in That allows us to narrow the range by a whopping one year. Information taken from Disston and catalogs The sizes range from 8 inches with narrow blades and fine teeth to 18 inches with the wider blades and coarser teeth — the 12 inch, a popular size being 3 inches under back and with teeth 14 points to the inch.
The etching in this illustration matches my saw.
