Posted on June 2, by Gary Duncan Stray voltage: Electric fences are typically charged with very short low current and high voltage pulses. This is much different that the continuous current that is flowing through the wires in your home, which are high current and low voltage. What goes out ultimately must come back. And, it seems to be continually seeking a ground to complete its circuit. Normal house type wiring, which has an insulation rating of volts, should not be used for electric fencing.
Having your own invisible dog fence allows you the convenience of keeping your dog safe outside without building a large fence around your property. Let’s be honest, a tired pooch is a happy and less destructive pooch. Dogs that are inside all day get bored easily and can become a nuisance, and being cooped up is also not great for the health of your family pet.
Position the fence charger on a wooden post or a building near the fence and hook a bare wire from the polytape to the charger to activate the fence. Install adequate ground rods for the charger, following the manufacturer’s recommendations.
In the first part of this series on how to set up a dog run cable, you learned how to choose a spot, dig your post holes and insert and set your posts in concrete. Now, in the final part of this series, you will learn how to install the cable and finish up the dog run. Note – if you have positioned the 2 posts correctly, the steel cable should sag very little, but should not be too taut.
Tip—you can use a wrench to help when the hook gets hard to turn. You can do this by going to the middle section of the cable and pulling down on the cable. Place as much weight on the cable as you can. In most cases, if the cable can support your weight, it is strong enough to keep your dog from breaking the cable and roaming free.
If you have a very large dog, and the cable does not seem to be strong enough, you can double up on the eyes hooks in the 2 posts for added strength. This should be long enough to allow your dog to lie down and roam around in the areas along the run. You need to take note not to make the lead wire too long or else it will tangle later on. Next, attach the tether line to the cable. Your new dog run cable will only be as strong as its weakest link.
Therefore, you will need to ensure that the collar is strong enough when the animal pulls and tugs on the lead line.

My son and had no issues with the install instructions. It took just over an hour to layout the wire and 30 min to hook it up. The product is great – except DogTek must have used a water soluble glue for holding the flags on the wooden posts. I’ve had to replace every one with masking tape. I sent two comments to Dogtek but got no response at all. The PetSmart flags, installed at the same time, worked fine. The electronic parts of the system are great, covering our 3 acres. The dog alarm battery was dead when we received it works great after figuring out that there are 8 settings on the collar.

Or, would this be a reasonable choice for your particular dog? Now, first things first. Regarding what I think of Invisible Fences, personally, the short answer is that I am not a huge fan. We will discuss the reasons for this below.
May 17, · I am moving into a new house in a week or so, and need to get an invisible fence for my 2 dogs. I already have the box and the collars, so basically I just need to get the wire in the ground.
Filling the device is similar to putting air in a tire – you shouldn’t hear hissing sounds and shouldn’t be getting spray outside the unit. It takes about 30 seconds to completely fill the device. Count to 30 slowly while holding the can firmly in place. When full, the reservoir contains about 23 sprays. Each Refill Can contains about sprays. You cannot overfill the device – the pressure in the can and device will equalize.
Adjusting the Dog Collar Strap: The device should be positioned so that the spray is directed frontward under the jaw. It is not necessary for the collar to be tight – the device uses a microphone to detect sound, rather than physical vibrations. When installing the battery, be certain that the positive and negative ends are properly aligned. Always remove the battery when the collar is not in use in order to prolong battery life. The microphone will be in continual “listening” mode whenever the battery is in the unit.
The transmitter should be located indoors in a dry, protected area that is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit and not exposed to sun.

About two years ago I switched to cocaine because I could work the next day. Jeremy is not the friend I was expecting to have this conversation with. Until a few weeks ago, I had no idea he used anything heavier than martinis. He is trim, intelligent, gluten-free, the kind of guy who wears a work shirt no matter what day of the week it is.
The first time we met, three years ago, he asked me if I knew a good place to do CrossFit. It was either that or watch a movie by myself.

Larry Click to expand My dog is trained better than most. She is better than most of the kids we see. She doesn’t bark unless there is a knock at the door than it’s just 1 bark, She doesn’t run at people or get excited by any passing dog. The invisible fence wire is mainly used at our home campsite which I own Sometimes I do take it with me to other campsites but it is used as a safety boundary if she gets let out accidentally by someone else our 4 and 6 year old nieces sometimes forget to close the door.
As far as the twist spike and cable when she is on it she is supervised by us sitting on the patio mat with her. She wouldn’t leave the mat if I tell here to stay on the mat for any reason. The cable is for the piece of mind of other guests. No one has ever had a complaint about any of my dogs anywhere we have stayed. Most people that see her say that they wish their dogs or kids listened as well as she does.
