Jennifer Aniston Is ‘Casually Dating’ After Split From Justin Theroux
The surfboard shaper with a motorcycle. I was fresh out of a relationship, breakup wounds still searing. But, rather than stay single, I figured out what the hell I wanted from my next long-term partner, dove straight into dating, and found myself in the middle of a rotation — that is, seeing a multitude of men, all noncommittally. Advertisement My many relationships have fallen somewhere between a string of not-so-great first dates and being in love.
I’ve enjoyed the fun aspects of being with a partner without being tied down to one person emotionally. And, since I don’t have a top-notch memory, it also requires keeping a handy list in my phone.
Though Haibon “dumped” Iaconetti on the show, “I never felt like it was over between us after Paradise,” he says.“I’m not gonna lie and say that I was in love with Ashley during
He explained how my conclusion to the situation was purely emotional, although I had a point. But what I could recall lead me to ask these questions: Is there a difference in dating exclusively and being in a committed relationship? Is it ok for someone in an exclusive relationship to hang out with someone else after midnight? And does their gender matter? To preface this, I think the whole point of dating is to find a lifelong mate.
What’s the Definition of An Exclusive Relationship?
I’m sure there is some buried post discussing this, but I thought I’d ask given some dynamics in my current relationship. I’ve been dating a great girl for months – I met her online. We both mentioned that we weren’t dating anyone else after a couple months into it, but she still her dating profile up although based on what one of my friends said who was on the site, she rarely checked it – logged in maybe every few weeks. Anyhow, at about the 6 month mark, we had our first meaningful disagreement – so we stepped back and talked through things, answered some of those dorky question lists that you find online, and one of the questions is how do you view this relationship.
Up until that point, while we had mentioned dating exclusively, we had not officially mentioned relationship.
For awhile I bounced back and forth between playing the field and not dating at all to focus on my son and myself. At the time, seeing a man one or two times and then moving on to the next was easier for me than anything committal. At a certain point though I grew bored of all the me-time and hook-ups. Without even realizing it, the desire to fall in love again had crept back into my life. Deciding if I want to share my life with someone takes me way more than a handful of dates.
As awkward as the conversation was to have, I explained to him my current fears about labels and seriously serious commitments. I told him how I felt about him and reassured him that I was dating him exclusively, but I was also honest about the fact that I needed more time to get to know him before I was going to be comfortable enough to enter into a full-blown relationship. Be honest with the person you are dating about what you are comfortable with. He was willing to continue being exclusive without being able to call me his girlfriend yet.
A funny thing happened after we had that exchange; because I was able to be completely candid about my feelings and also listen to his, my fears about labels subsided. His willingness to stick around, despite my reservations, made me realize he was worth taking the leap into girlfriend territory. Moral of the story? Lasting relationships are built on trust and communication, and we all want a lasting relationship, right? Be proud of who you are.
Does ‘We’re Exclusive’ Mean You’re Boyfriend/Girlfriend? Probably Not.

And I think that because we are both coming from similar situations, it just might work. Neither of us are commitment phobes, or want to date around. Neither one of us wants to hurt the other.

It’s funny to think that such innocent terms as “boyfriend” and “girlfriend,” that floated so effortlessly around the halls of high schools, now imply some sort of deep, long-lasting, sticky commitment of the utmost seriousness. The fallout from this aversion to labels remains to be seen. It is now expected that a couple will first hookup for a significant — albeit unsubstantial — period of time, only to then qualify their pseudo relationship with vague promises of monogamy.
